A company at the centre of an ABC investigation into the liquor industry has recalled several of its spirit brands, warning they could “cause injury if consumed”. Sydney-based GJ Wholesale warned its products bought in bottle shops around Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT should be returned, due to potential chemical contamination. The company’s “Los Cabos Tequila” was in June the subject of an ABC report, which revealed Mexican authorities were suspicious about the brand. Mexico’s Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) which regulates the spirt, said it was “not linked” to the industry. The NSW Food Authority (NSWFA) launched an investigation into several brands of alcohol after the ABC’s report. “Consumers should not consume these products and should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.” The affected GJ Brands include Verushka Vodka, Mississippi Bourbon, Los Cabos Tequila, Yachtsman White Rum, Mudgee Rum, Barman’s Choice Whiskey, Hunter Brandy and Her Choice Gin.
